Usabilty in Milwaukee | MilwauCHI’s Jan 18 accessibility presentation

Nearly a year ago, I started working with a group of Milwaukee, WI usability professionals to (re-)establish MilwauCHI, the local chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (AMC) Special Interest Group (SIG) on Computer-Human Interaction (CHI).
That’s really just a long way of saying that we’re a group that puts on meetings for people interested in usability-related issues. So far we’ve done almost monthly presentations on topics ranging from the UX of social media to iPhone apps.
Accessibility presentation
Next week, on Monday, January 18, we’re doing an exciting event on accessibility at IndependenceFirst. Located on 1st Street in Walker’s Point, IndependenceFirst is a really cool facility that offers tons of services and programs for people with disabilities in the Metro Milwaukee area.
In addition to getting a tour of IndependenceFirst’s new building, there will also be presentations by two Madison-area accessibility experts.
- Shawn Henry leads worldwide education and outreach activities promoting Web accessibility for people with disabilities at the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI).
- Scott Mayer is from the American Family Usability Department. Scott is completely blind. Read an article about Scott.

Tweetup afterward
This is not an official MilwauCHI activity, but I’m proposing that a bunch of us walk a block or so over to Slim McGinn’s for some drinks and UX nerd revelry, post-presentation. Email me or DM me on Twitter to be kept up to date on what’s happening with this part of the night.
